Close to Halong Bay area, you have several options for island resorts. If you prefer a luxury stay, you can choose Vinpearl Resort Halong which is located on Reu Island, about 5-10 minutes by express boat from Bai Chay. Other alternatives include Cat Ba Island Resort & Spa or Flamingo Cat Ba, both of which are on Cat Ba Island. You can take the ferry from Tuan Chau island to Cat Ba island and take a shuttle to either of these islands.
There are parts of Vietnam that experience monsoonal rain and tropical storm in October. However the weather in October is quite ideal for a holiday in either Phu Quoc or Cat Ba, both of which has very little rain and calm, mild climate. You can enjoy water-based activities such as swimming, kayaking or lazing on the beach.
The majority of island resorts in Vietnam offer complimentary shuttle service from the airport/ferry pier. This service is also complimentary for guests transferring to/from another hotel/resort as long as it’s midway between the resort and the airport/ferry. Do remember to confirm your stay at least 5 days prior to your arrival so that they can arrange the transportation in a timely manner. Taxis are always available in case you find them more convenient.
Vinpearl resorts, located on Phu Quoc and Hon Tre (Nha Trang) islands, are known for being kid-friendly. They have some of Vietnam's biggest children playgrounds, amusement parks and even a safari in Phu Quoc.
If you prefer a more laid back setting, you may consider InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay or Six Senses Con Dao. The kid’s clubs of these resorts are supervised by staff members to ensure your children’s safety.
Public transportation on the majority of Vietnamese islands is yet to mature, so it is not an ideal way to travel around the island. Most resorts offer car rental services that allow you to either opt to drive the car on your own or have a chauffeur driver drive you around the island. Other ways to get around the island is to grab a taxi or join package tours which are on offer at the concierge desk of most resorts.
It’s best to head to resorts in the South of Vietnam as the summer weather is quite ideal there. Southern islands like Phu Quoc and Con Dao have several decent resorts with pristine beaches. Regarding luxury ones, Phu Quoc has JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay and InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort, while Con Dao has Six Senses. Some premium resorts in these islands are Radisson Blu, La Veranda Resort - MGallery, and VinPearl in Phu Quoc, Poulo Condor Boutique Resort & Spa in Con Dao.
InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort for sure! Their rooftop bar, INK 350, offers a panoramic view of the ocean at sunset. You can still indulge in their exquisite dining experience even if you are not an in-house guest with no additional fee applied. Do remember to reserve a table in advance so you can have a stunning view of Phu Quoc’s sunset.
Con Dao has always been an ideal destination for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. It is less touristy and crowded than the islands of Phu Quoc and Cat Ba, as well as those in Nha Trang. Six Senses Con Dao and Poulo Condor Boutique Resort & Spa are the two best resorts on this island. They’re quite remote and have private beaches.
Resorts located on Cat Ba island and other islands around Ha Long Bay, which is roughly 2 hours away from Noi Bai International Airport (Ha Noi), would be just nice. A 2-to-3-night stay at Wyndham Grand Flamingo Cat Ba Resort, which sits on Cat Ba island, or VinPearl Resort Ha Long, which is located on Reu island, is highly recommended.
Nha Trang is famous for its marvellous beaches and islands, yet the choice of resorts there remains limited. Unfortunately, there are no island resorts in Da Nang and nearby areas. There are only two peninsulas/islands off the coast of Da Nang known as Son Tra and Cu Lao Cham. However, accommodation there remains limited, with only a few basic lodges like hostels and guesthouses. Nevertheless, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, one of Vietnam’s finest luxury resorts, would be an ideal alternative.
Many resorts in Phu Quoc allow people who are not in-house guests to visit their properties. Please be informed that not all open their door freely to the general public. For example, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay and InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort require each visitor to buy an entrance ticket (VND 500,000/ USD 23), which works as a voucher that can be used to pay for F&B or spa services, while VinPearl resort only allows the public to access some parts of its complex.
