Frequently asked questions

The two of us intend to go with Sapa’s Topas Ecolodge resort for picturesque mountain views and would like some short excursion in town. Is it convenient to stay here and still be able to explore the town? Any alternative ideas?

Topas Ecolodge is emerging as a top choice of many travellers to Sapa and is now on par with its greatest rival - Hotel de la Coupole - MGallery. Both of these are ideal choices for a honeymoon stay, thanks to their customised service catering to newlyweds. While Topas Ecolodge, 45 minutes from Sapa town, sits on the mountainside and offers a panoramic view of Vietnam’s highest mountain range, Hoang Lien Son, Hotel de la Coupole - MGallery, located right in Sapa town’s centre, is grand, classic, and extraordinary. So it’s relatively hard to find a decent resort situated in town and has a picturesque mountain view

I want to get a side trip on our limited free days in Hanoi. Would love a mountain retreat within easy reach of Hanoi?

Legacy Yen Tu - MGallery, which features handcrafted materials and old construction methods by adjacent villagers who have lived in the area for centuries, might be an ideal destination for you. It is around 3 hours from Hanoi. Alternatives are resorts in Tam Dao and Vinh Phúc, which are less than 2 hours from Hanoi. Some notable resorts in these towns include Melia Bavi Mountain Retreat, Ba Vi Resort, FCL Luxury Vinh Phuc, Hidden Hill Resort Vinh Phuc.

I wish to find a mountain resort that has waterfall views in Northern Vietnam? Please suggest?

Apart from a few tiny guesthouses or homestays, there aren't many mountain resorts with waterfall views. Saigon Ban Gioc Resort and Avana Retreat Mai Chau, located in the mountainous provinces of Cao Bang and Hoa Binh, respectively, overlook waterfalls.

I am considering Mai Chau and Sapa for the highland scenery and culture. Also, does Mai Chau have nice resorts?

Mai Chau and Sapa can make any tourist marvel at their magnificent highland scenery. Although Mai Chau is significantly less touristy than Sapa, it doesn’t mean that Mai Chau lags far behind Sapa regarding the diversity and quality of resorts. While Topas Ecolodge in Sapa has received many positive reviews from travellers, its sister in Mai Chau, known as Mai Chau Ecolodge, is also emerging as one of the finest resorts in Northern Vietnam. Other options include Mai Chau Sunrise Village Resort, Mai Chau Lodge Resort, and Mai Chau Villas.

Wondering which cities in Vietnam have nature close by. I’m really into mountains and forests but still want a convenient stay at a decent resort!

Da Lat, one of the only few cities in Southern Vietnam with a temperate climate due to its high altitude, is an ideal choice for you. It is gifted with one of Southeast Asia’s most magnificent pine forests. It can overwhelm any nature lover with its breathtaking views of clouds hovering above valleys in the early morning. Besides, there are many decent choices of accommodation, from homestay villas to resorts. Popular resorts in Dalat are Ana Mandara Villas Dalat Resort & Spa, Dalat Edensee Resort & Spa, Terracotta Hotel and Resort, and Swiss-Belresort Tuyen Lam.

I’ve heard that Dalat is the place for a mountain retreat in South Vietnam? Is it worth the hype?

Dalat is quite popular among local travellers. It is pretty much suitable for a short weekend getaway. Dalat can satisfy both those who want to get around and visit attractions as well as those who just want to laze around all day in a decent resort. Homestays are usually located in the centre, while resorts revolve around Tuyen Lam Lake, 20 minutes from town. So Dalat is definitely a to-go destination for a short mountain retreat. A 2-night stay at a nice resort like Ana Mandara Villas Dalat Resort & Spa or Swiss-Belresort Tuyen Lam would be just good.

I’m thinking of spending 1 out of 3 nights in Da Nang at a resort on Ba Na mountain. Which is the best hotel/resort in that area?

Sadly, accommodation on Ba Na mountain remains very limited. That being said, if you want to spend a night up there, it is still worth it. Mercure Ba Na Hills French Village (4 stars), Morin Hotel (3 stars), and Debay Hotel are all the hotels/resorts available on Ba Na mountain. The best out of the three is Mercure Ba Na Hills French Village, as it has a wider array of room categories and a better location.

We can’t wait to witness the mountain ranges and paddy fields of Trang An - Ninh Binh. One thing left to decide is a resort near Trang An area? Please give us some advice?

Trang An is a wise choice for your trip to Vietnam! There are a few beautiful resorts scattered across the paddy fields. There are two types of resorts you can find here. The first ones are ecolodges, which strongly focus on environmental responsibility and indigenous values. These are Mua Caves Ecolodge, Aravinda Resort Ninh Bình, Memorina Ninh Bình Farmstay, Ninh Bình Eco Garden. The other is typical four-starred resorts, which are more international. These are Aravinda Resort Ninh Bình, Ninh Bình Hidden Charm Hotel & Resort.

Victoria Nui Sam Lodge looks pretty nice among the accommodations in Chau Doc. The only thing that makes me wonder is can we catch a Grab in this area?

Unfortunately, Grab is currently unavailable in this area. Instead, you should directly contact taxi companies via their hotlines. However, it might interest you to learn that pick-up service from town by 15-seater shuttle bus is available free of charge with a fixed schedule. Bear in mind that you should reserve seats in advance. For other times and pick-up points, their front desk can help you arrange a taxi service.

I’ve already booked a beach resort in Dong Hoi city and want to go more local with a resort when reaching Phong Nha - Ke Bang. It would be best with a mountain or lake view!

Phong Nha Ke Bang tourism has exploded in popularity in recent years following aggressive marketing and the introduction of many new lodges. Phong Nha Lake House Eco Resort is one of the finest resorts in Phong Nha - Ke Bang. Phong Nha Cave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a 10-minute drive from the resort. A 20-minute drive will take you to Nhat Le Beach, while a 30-minute trip will take you to Thien Duong Cave, and Dong Hoi Airport. It also features both Western and Vietnamese cuisine!
